Frosts 12 cupcakes
- 3 sticks of butter (1 1/2 cups)
- 41/2 cups powdered suger
- 3 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Whip butter in the bowl of a stand mixer for 8 minutes. when the butter has a frosting like consistency, add powdered sugar. but beater on lowest setting, and gradually get faster, unless you wish to have a powdered sugar shower (one of the reasons i have a love-hate relationship with this stuff). Add heavy cream. then add vanilla and salt. put in piping bag, or spread on.
Flavor Variations
- Mint: 1 1/2 teaspoons peppermint extract
- Chocolate: add 1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder and 1 more tablespoon heavy cream
- Flavor extract: 1 1/2 teaspoons flavor extract
- Fruit Flavor: 3/4 cup favorite jam or fruit butter (the only case i can come up with for this is apple)
- Colored: 5-10 drops food coloring (you can add this to another flavoring, like i like to dye my mint buttercream green)
